Construct Education hands over hygiene packs to The Homestead
Thursday, 18 August 2022
Cape Town, South Africa
In July this year, Construct Education announced its partnership with The Homestead, a South African Non-Profit Organization providing care and support for children from the streets since 1982.
To kick off the partnership, Construct called on staff to donate toiletries which would be used to create hygiene kits for the children and youth supported by The Homestead.
Staff and the business donated generously. We received 500 toiletry items and three boxes of gently used sneakers and recreational shoes. As a result of this generosity, members of the Construct Social Committee were able to make up 50 hygiene kits and hand this over at The Homestead head office, in Cape Town, on 18 August 2022.
Maria Sikaundi, director of The Homestead, shared the following about the distribution of the hygiene packs.
We would like to distribute the hygiene packs to 50 children who attend our Town Two Drop-in Centre. The center is based in Silvertown in Khayelitsha, within informal settlements. The Town Two Center is one of six Homestead Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) centers. The Homestead Town Two Drop-in Centre provides formal and consistent daily psychosocial support to help these children, reduce their vulnerability and get children back into and succeeding at school.
Construct is thrilled that the contribution we have made will have a positive impact on the lives of children. For us, this is only the beginning of our journey with The Homestead and we have already embarked on our second campaign to support them – the collection of period products to ensure that no girl is forced to miss a day of school due to lack of this essential hygiene item.
The Homestead is always in need of support from corporates and individuals. If you would like to contribute or learn more about the organization you can connect through their website and social channels.
About The Homestead
The Homestead is a Non-Profit Organization established in 1982 to care for and support children who are from the streets. The Homestead has two Child and Youth Care Centers; the Bridge CYCC in Khayelitsha, and LaunchPad Transitional CYCC in Observatory, caring for boys and youth until they realize their full potential. To reduce and prevent the risk of children ending up on the streets, the Homestead has six Prevention and Early Intervention Program Centers. Placement of children in residential facilities is the last resort.
